Meditation: Sphere of Protection

Offered practice sphere of protection.

As I offer this practice, please take whatever piece resonates, even if it simply means taking a few moments to notice your breath.

Soften your gaze, or if it feels safe to do so, close your eyes.

Notice your breath entering and leaving your lungs. There is no need to change anything. Simply notice how it feels.

Laying a hand on your chest or your belly can help In this process of noticing and connecting to your natural rhythms.

Picture an element that brings you a feeling of protection.

This could be the grounding of earth, the fierceness of fire the magnitude of water or the agility of air.

Take time to allow its image to unfold in your mind.

What is its texture? Its smell? Its taste?

Does it emit warmth or cold on your skin?

Now imagine this elemental force field beginning to swirl in a circular direction around your body. Starting from where you're making contact with the ground and slowly spiraling upwards until you are surrounded by its presence and it closes in above your head.

This sphere of protection is moving and alive, both impenetrable and translucent. The world still exists outside its parameters, but it cannot break through the sphere.

Sit as long as you like here.

When you are ready, gently allow your eyes to open and attune yourself to the external world. Look around using your neck to move your gaze around the room. Take time to notice where things are within this space and locate your body within it.

Know that this sphere of protection is still there for you to return to whenever you need it.
